Default Help With Data Please

In our area we have never had EV. Well now my wives pearl with prl 40045 does, while my curve prl 40048 does not. I spoke with tech and they told me I am in a EV area. I think they bs'd me and then blew me off. Can some one help me get it working before I have to deal with tech again.

If you are technically inclined and can find a source for the 40045 PRL file, you can probably it to your device manually using QPST. Look a few threads down at the thread "Storm working on Alltel." This has a good step-by-step description of how to use the QPST tool to write a PRL to your BB.

My daughter has a Moto Q and she can't get her phone to update to prl 40048. I told her to call Alltel, and they told her she didn't have to worry that she had a different phone than me. So my question is, are they full of crap, or should it be updated also?

Alltel will not admit it, but PRL 40048 has problems. Where my phone used to work when roaming, specifically Ponte Vedra Beach, FL no longer gets 1XEV. Also, just flew to Charlotte, NC and could not receive calls. Tech support did get this fixed. Also, my phone now wants to go into roam at my house in Tallahassee and the signal has become garbage there. Tech support says that is just the way it is now and closed the ticket on it. Unfortunately, what was once a great company is going from bad to worse. I guess we can thank VZW for this.

Well crap, that sucks. I read once if you got a good tech, they could push a prl thru to your phone.

When I first talked 2 tech he told me in 24 hrs. I would have 40039 pushed thru of course it didn't happen. Just what I was told though.

douglasfamily I feel your pain. The exact thing happened to me here above Greensboro, NC. When they pushed 40047 to me I lost evdo. I reloaded 40043 and all is good. You can get the prl and others at answermans page at The Answerman's License To Rant. If you need exact directions on how to load it just ask and good luck. Use QPST 2.7 build 215.

forkup

Douglasfamily:

Where are you located? Do you happen to know if you have Alltel-owned towers in your area? A different PRL is really only going to help you when you are roaming out of your area - so that may not solve your data issue unless you happen to be "roaming" on Sprint or Verizon's towers within your home area.

What I mean is that if there is not an alltel-owned tower near enough to you to provide adequate coverage, your phone will pop over to a Sprint or Verizon tower. So it is entirely possible that you live in an Alltel area but are far enough from an alltel-owned tower, that you actually use other towers.

When VZW purchased Alltel, they started redoing the PRLs to make Verizon the first roaming choice and Sprint secondary. I believe prior to this, Sprint was the primary choice. In any case, perhaps that is the difference in 40045 and 40048?

Maybe your wife is roaming to Sprint EVDO on 40045 and you are roaming to Verizon non-EVDO on 40048. Though I find it hard to believe sprint would have EVDO in an area that Verizon doesn't.

In any case, I would also consider a potential phone issue. If you and your wife both have BBs, are both in the same location, and she has EVDO and you don't - something is certainly up. Have you tried to ask Alltel if they would open an escalated trouble ticket with you? They actually have some great BB Support in the upper levels.
