Unhappy Have you looked at VZW plans?

On Friday July 10 at 11pm Alltel.com will no longer be available to us. Verizonwireless.com will be our new destination to manage our accounts. Have you compared your current Alltel plan to a comparable VZW offering? Here is mine:
Alltel: MyCircle 10 Smart Pack 1200--$109.99/month
VZW: Nationwide Email & Message 900 with 5 Friends and Family--$119.99/month
So...if the VZW plans remain the same, and in 18 months I decide to sign on with VZW, I'll pay $10 more per month, have 300 fewer talk minutes, 6 less Friends and Family (I currently have 11) and "nights" start at 9 rather than 7. VZW motto is "We're not satisfied unless you are..." I'd say they have a long way to go to fulfill those words.

well, AT&T's plans blow donkey balls too

Sprint and Alltel had by far the better plans of the national carriers, now that Alltel's out of the way, just one fewer reasonable option.

Oh please. I have gotten excellent customer service and excellent network service the ENTIRE time I have been an Alltel customer (over 12 years). I don't need to be able to talk to 86 million people. I don't KNOW 86 million people.

The plans are also comparable to AT&T, which is the 2nd largest carrier in the U.S.

In regards to the fewer Friends and Family, later Nights and Weekends, etc.. - consider this.. you are now mobile to mobile with 86 MILLION subscribers. Chances of some of those people on your MyCircle are Verizon customers?
In my situation, very few of the people that I call the most are on Verizon or Alltel. A few are, but once I have to transition to a Verizon plan with no (or fewer) My Circle/Friends and Family numbers, my "anytime" usage will go up dramatically.

And the earlier nights and weekends provided by our Alltel plans represents a SIGNIFICANT cost savings to us.

I'm not Verizon-bashing. They are okay. But they aren't the benevolent, saintly entity that some of the Verizon people are trying to make them out to be.

Spare us that, at least.

Vzw & att are comparable... Coverage, plans, & prices. They are the big 2 carrier for a reason. They have the best of the best. Sprint & alltel (& t-mo) are cheaper for a reason... Their coverage sucks. Plain & simple. We have two real companies, big red & big blue. They both have the better technologies. The others are just piggybacking on. Eventually. The big two will buy-out the others too.

It's all a matter of Perspective

I've always lived in Kansas, Nebraska, or Arkansas.

In those areas, Alltel has always had SUPERIOR coverage to any other carier.

I also have NEVER had a bad cs experience with alltel so I can't imagine there will be some vast improvement with the switch. Also ALL of the 10 numbers in my circle call land lines, so nope no savings by calling any of the 86 million. I personally am not real impressed by the vzw plans vs. The alltel plans but unfortunately I will be stuck.

i love Alltel and am very sorry to see them go. i came from Cingular when when lied to me and canceled my grandfather att plan. i was with Verizon for about a minute. I am sorry but my customer service experience was awful and they said yes to all of my questions but it took about four months to get my money back. plus the past few weeks my phone drops calls worse then when the birds flying overhead drop their waste. Alltel is aware of this and says it will soon be back to normal. I guess i will go back to Att when Verizon makes me change my plan. RIP Alltel.

I have been with Alltel for 12 years, ( for a good reason ) never have I had a bad experience. they have been the best rates, and customer service. I have never in 12 years recieved a faulty phone, and I get a new phone at the end of all my contracts, so thats alot of phones considering I have 5 phones on my acct. I really hate to see them go.

I've been with Alltel for 7-Years and have had absolutely the best customer service experience. In fact, I left VZW back then because they had, IMO, very bad customer service (I'm sorry, a 6 month old phone is not outdated and is not the reason for bad reception 2 miles from a tower). I am on the MyCircle 10 Family Plan with 500 combined minutes and a data plan for $100 after taxes. Most of My-Circle numbers are landlines. I regularly use 1500-2000 minutes a month total, but only 300-400 of my anytime minutes, so yeah going to the same VZW plan won't work for me and will cost me more money. I travel all over the country and have had absolutely no coverage problems. In fact, my boss who had Verizon has had to borrow my phone in the past because he has had no signal (he switched to Alltel after that kept happening).

Why is VZW one of the largest? It isn't because they are the best, it is because of $$$. They had the money to do mergers and acquisitions. They are eliminating the competition. Watch in the future for the government breaking them apart just like they did with the AT&T landline phone company back in the day.

I'M PISSED. Verizon plans SUCK BALLS.

Thinking about switching but the only people I could switch to would be US Cellular and I cringe at that thought..

I have been with Alltel for 9 years. Never had anyone else and never needed anyone else. I am not happy about this.

Actually I am on the cut off line and I could go 10 miles West and ALLTEL will still be there and not the part of any buyout. BUT I was told I couldn't keep my phone number which is now owned by VZW WTF is that all about.

I don't want to let that number go it has been in my family for at least 58 years. It was my Family land line number all my life I took over the number in 2003 when my mother died.

There is no such area. What Verizon is not buying is being purchased by AT&T or Atlantic Tele-Network - at the completion of those transactions, Alltel will cease to exist.

That could be , but they are not going to be Verizon ten miles away.
