I understand that statement better than previous statement that it was a "RIM Issue."

I am glad Alltel is working on making that available to their customers. Sprint just says "switch carriers or switch devices."

I am curious though why Alltel did not discover the problem and had a resolution to it before they deployed the device. I am sure they went through testing before they made the 8130 available to the public that they knew MMS would not work. Just curious.

I think Alltel intended to introduce the Pearl with mms, but their version of the OS w/mms was not available from RIM for the launch, so they went ahead without, with the plan to deliver the new OS as soon as it was ready for 'prime time'.

I'm not sure why the pearl was release before everything was 'complete'. if i had to guess it had to do with $$$$, being release just before Christmas and not wanting to pass the opportunity. I would like to think they anticipated launching it with the mms ability but who knows for sure. i do know that when i was launched it was known that it would not do mms right away. but the software update should also effect issues with call logs and texts dissapearing, which i don't believe was a known issue at the time of launch. the phones usually go though 2 -3 months of testing before release, but almost all of them have some kind of updated needed - some small and some large, but almost all of them have some kind of 'glitch' when they are new. last i heard is that software is in testing still and everyone will be notified via text. dunno if that will change though, at least this is the information that we can being told...

Does anybody know the timeframe on which an update will occur to enable MMS? Alltel reps have told me a month, which was a month and a half ago. I do know these things take time and when they say a month, they mean two.

I am just wondering if anybody has heard anything new?

Also, will this feature be enabled on the new OS 4.5?

I would not hold my breath if I were you. The one thing I have learned from alltel is their tech and sales people flat shoot from the hip. I have been told everything from anyday now, to next month to 6 months, to it will never happen. I stopped asking?

I dont think they know!

Pardon my lack of knowledge on this, I'm a new guy at this stuff. Don't even have my Pearl yet (this weekend) . MMS........ is that e-mail, or text messaging that it won't work on?

Default Mms

I have tired sending using the "1234567890@message.alltel.com" and get a error or failed message. I'm VERY frustrated with this! Had I known I would have saved money and kept my Razor. I have called them with no results. Why should I pay for the service when I'm not getting it. Other carriers have it and yet as BIG of a company that Alltel is they cant offer it on thier smart phones... that BULLS**T sorry im just exstreamly irritated with this phone.

Just my opinion but they should price adjust these accounts.

and this is why alltel really pisses me off. my rep promised me that it would recieve mms messages in the next month well what a lying **** she was, and the rest of the alltel i would not have gone with them had they not been the only option in my town.

Exclamation

I've been with AllTell since June of last year and this is the first BB that I've had with them (though not my first berry by any means). Basically what I've been told by both the store sales staff, tech staff and the people on the phone who we all know usually don't know what's going on is that AllTel chose not to activate the MMS feature since users are able to send and receive pics over email and that (at least when I got my berry service activated in December) they weren't planning on supporting it any time in the future. Now this is just what I've been told by the folks at the store that I hung out at - whether it's policy or not is another story, but it may shed some light on why we don't get MMS.

(Side note, it's taken me 3 months to get my EVDO service working in my new area, so we all know how reliable tech support is).

Judging by how Alltel recently handled an upgrade for Motorola Q users....when the update is available, users will receive an SMS text message with a URL to go to on their computer for complete instructions and a link to download the upgrade package for their model. It's coming...

i think it's alltel i have the 8830 without a camera and can't use it alltel
said since you don't have a camera you dont need i just want to be able to sent a longer text and its on my phone. I'm not done fighting with them let.
the same for GSM if you go out of the country you can than buy a card what am i paying you for. i think the only reason MMS GSM are on there because alltel couldn't get the phone any other way. they are suppose to get the curve later this year. that will be just the shell of the phone.
