Do I need an Alltel or Verizon phone??

I have a Alltel bb and was just switched to Verizon. I do not have a contract with either carrier since my contract expired with Alltel after the switch. I dont really want to get a new contract since it will cost me about $40 more a month to have the same plan with Verizon that I had with Alltel. So I have been looking on ebay for a new phone. Do I need a bb listed under alltel or as verizon. I was told by one verizon store that I would need an alltel phone.
Any help would be great!

Well - a VZW rep should not activate a VZW branded phone, especially a blackberry - without a VZW plan with appropriate BB feature codes on the account... so, if you want to keep the terms of your current plan, I'd go with an Alltel branded BB.

It is up to you, the policy is that if you have been rolled over from Alltel to Verizon you may keep your Alltel plan and use Verizon equipment. The only exception to this is if you are using a DATA only device like a air card or a BlackBerry with data only. So if you want to renew your contract and get a Verizon branded BlackBerry and keep your plan. You may do so.

Training I just had told us VZW branded phones, regardless of source, needed VZW plans... I'll have to look into this more...

You may purchase a VZW Blackberry and keep your Alltel plan.
You get your VZW Blackberry at the 2 year rate and extend your Alltel plan for 2 years.
If you get told ANYTHING different, your getting told wrong.

Thanks for the help. I will get an Alltel one off ebay. Hopefully I will not have a problem. If it doesnt work I wont be out too much money. I guess the curve would probably be a good one to get.... If there was a website like this for iphones I'd probably switch to AT&T, but crackberry is awesome! Thanks again!

As far as them "activating" a phone I THINK they will only "activate" a VZW branded phone while keeping Alltel plan.
I don't think they will activate an Alltel branded phone on their network.
I could be wrong.

Someone with a "Blue" plan can activate a "Blue" phone on that plan.

LOL You'll learn that in training you hear about 500 different stories and half are not true.

But yes - you can activate a VZW phone on an Alltel plan - all day long. I do it everyday. It just adds a VZW Blackberry feature so it is provisioned with the BIS on VZW.

The only exception to this whole situation is if you have a VZW plan - you cannot activate an Alltel phone.

That's correct.. Can't be VZW plan and Alltel handset.

I am on a out of contract Alltel plan and just changed from a Curve to an Alltel BB Flip (used). Did it all online through the my verizon activate device option. Worked like a champ. So I would say to be on the safe side, find an Alltel branded phone.

Well instead of making another thread, i'll post here, since its along the same lines. TO get it straight, i can activate an alltel or vzw branded phone, on an alltel plan?
