Default Divested Customers - Alltel is coming back!

Divested Customers - Alltel is coming back! As Allied Wireless Communications Corporation.

The new headquarters will be located in the very same buildings that Alltel was located in. According to the press release 800,000 customers will be served by AWCC. The former VP of Alltel will be the CEO.

Allied Wireless -- Sounds familiar to Alltel's start as Allied Telephone Company..

Very interesting. I'm in an area that ATN acquired, so I guess I will be with AWCC. If they provide the same service and coverage, and I think that's the message here, than that will be great. Time will tell.

My only question is this: will their phone lineup continue to be eons beyond other carriers?

That's one of the fears that I had. Alltel has been the "smaller" company for a long time and we as customers have always had the "new/cool" phones months after the other USA carriers released the same product. I love Alltel and their prices can't be beat, but unfortunately I've fallen into the category that I want the new/cool stuff NOW. So when my contract is up this summer, I'll have to decide if I want to stay with Alltel and keep my GREAT prices on my plan and keep getting "old news" phones or go somewhere else and pay premium prices on my plans but get all the new gadgets.

Such a tough decision.

If VZW is an option for you, you can keep your Alltel plan and get a VZW device.

How does one go about that?? I am Alltel (blackberry pearl flip) but want a Droid. How would I move to VZ, keep my Alltel plan and yet get a Droid?

There have been plan and policy changes at VZW recently so I can't answer your question with any certainty. I do know that my VZW Curve 8330 cannot utilize several VZW offerings like vcast due to the fact I'm on an Alltel plan. I don't need or use these services so I don't really care. There may or may not be restrictions on the Droid that require a VZW plan. Have you called VZW CS to inquire about this? Also, you can ask the VZW techs in the Verizon carrier threads. They're usually knowledgeable and helpful. There is one thing for sure and that is a VZW rep will encourage you to switch to a VZW plan...no matter what. Once you switch you can't go back. I would get more than one opinion and make an educated choice.

If you are a divested customer, than you can not keep your Alltel plan. That option is only for those that VZW will absorb, not those going to AT&T or ATN.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the VZ board and see if they can point me in the right direction.
