Default contracts now 1 year

I read on my vigo that alltel divested markets will now do 1 year contracts, but you will still get the phone at a 2 year price. Can't remeber wich feed stated that but I'm sure I won't be the only one that reads it.

From Engadget Mobile
Quote:
Alltel steps down to one-year contracts without changing phone prices

Here's a refreshing shocker: the industry-standard two-year contract is effectively going away -- at least temporarily. Starting tomorrow, the 91 markets of Alltel that Verizon is required to divest are now offering one-year contracts for all new and renewing customers, but there's no increase in phone pricing -- you'll pay exactly the same amount at the register as if you were signing a two-year deal. The move almost seems like a little "screw you" to whomever ends up acquiring the markets, since those companies will effectively have to deal with the lost revenue -- but on the record, anyhow, the divested trust's main sales guy says that they're "excited about the possibility of joining AT&T." We're not so sure that AT&T feels the same way, but in the meantime, this is a nice little win for customers.

Cool I year contract not known to call center rep's

Finally upgraded my plan today from standard phones to 8330's. The Alltel website stated PLAINLY that a ONE YEAR contract would get the phones for the "same low price". On my third call, I got a rep that worked with me - that is, up to the "2-Year" contract business. She had to go to her manager and they "approved the 1-year" for me. Geez - I had to steer them to their own website to find this information. Maybe it's a regional thing, b/c she had to enter my zip code in the "search for products" screen to even find the deal I was looking at. Also, the 500 minute plan at $89.99 (plus $40 for the 2nd BB) included the My Circle 5. I stated that I had My Circle 10, with an extra 'Bonus' to make it 11. She said that would remain the same. There's not even a 10 Plan listed, only 5, 15, and 25. Anyway, after two hours, I got two 8330's, two BT headsets, and two car chargers (accessories were free for a limited time) for $99.98 after two $100 rebates. NOt two shabby, but I had to work for it. My existing bill is runs about $100, and we never approach the 900 shared minutes, mainly due to My Circle and Cell-to-cell calls. I think the total bill will be about $50 bucks more, but, ain't technology wonderful!

Two more things:

1 - I hope they don't try to screw me with the double charge deal b/c of switching in the middle of the month, but I think I'm just into my new billing cycle.

2 - I learned that all Verizon users are included in the Mobile-to-Mobile minutes. Now I can free-up about 5 of My Circle numbers that I've been using for Verizon family members. That's a good thing.

Looking forward to a new journey with my soon-to-be received 8330.

I was really happy to get this promotion. I live in Ohio and our Alltel markets haven't been sold to anyone yet. Another cool thing they are doing is, I am 6 months from my current contract being up, and they told me that they would let me out of my current contract (regular phone) if I upgraded to a BlackBerry and purchased $100 worth of accessories. I don't care if that's legit or not, but me (the consumer) actually won one.

I used to be a CSR for Alltel from 2006-2008. If you are near your billing cycle you will get prorated from the date of the switch to the end of the cycle (minutes & charge) as well as a month in advance for the new plan. IF she did them same day. The policy is the plan is supposed to take affect when your new cycle hits. It can be done as a same day change only if the customer requests it.

Also, many of the promotions on the website are to be done thru the Sales Activation Center only. I didn't know most of the deals going on as a CSR. We usually had different pricing than what the website says because the web offers "exclusive online deals". So, it's kind of the company's fault that the CSR's didn't know the deals. I'm sorry it took 3 people, but at least you were able to get the deal!
