Default Can I switch a verizon BB to an alltel number?

Help! My husband's Alltel pearl is dead. I have an old Verizon 8830. Can I switch the 8830 to his number. Unfortunately the Alltel is a company account and he won't be in his office tomorrow to have his secretary deal with this. He will be traveling and needs a phone. Before I spend too much time trying to figure out how to do this, I figured you all could tell me if it can be done. Thanks!

Is this an Alltel converted account? Or is it still an Alltel account that has not been switched over to the VZW billing system? If it is converted, then no problem changing your plan. However, if it is still a heritage Alltel account, then you won't be able to do it with a rep who follows policy.

If I am reading between the lines correctly, YES, it can be done; but, NO, it is against VZW policy to do this if you are still on an Alltel plan. Good customer service?

OMG you can do it if you are converted. Your plan's features will change to support the VZW device (bb feature code, data provisioning), but it won't cost you extra. The Alltel system does not have VZW features nor does it talk to the VZW AAA, switch, and BB server.

It is not bad customer service - it is just not supported on non-converted Alltel accounts.

If it was bad customer service, then why would they allow you to change to a VZW phone when you are converted?

Not to mention the headache it causes after your account is converted. For example: a BB storm showing up as an Alltel BB Pearl after conversion. We then have to submit a form and wait a few days just for feature changes to be correct now. Then call you back to let you know that your device is now showing correctly and we can add whatever vzw feature you'd like..

I never said it was bad customer service. You stated "you won't be able to do it with a rep who follows policy." I understood this to mean it could be done by a rogue rep who wanted to take care of the customer.

Thanks! I can go into a VZW store and if they determine something is wrong with my Alltel branded phone they can put me into a VZW branded phone with my Alltel plan to try and fix the problem. But if a client already owns a VZW branded phone it cannot be added to the Alltel plan if their Alltel phone in broken. I guess policy is policy!

If a rep from a VZW store is actually helping you with your issue you are not part of Alltel, which means none of this applies to you.

That's incorrect

Some Alltel areas have already converted to Verizon and they do grandfather Alltel plans. A VZW phone can be put onto a Heritage Alltel Plan as long as the plan current. An Alltel phone technically can be put onto a VZW plan but it has to be certified which is a process that can take up to a month of you not having a phone, so most people say that it just can't be done. But yes VZW phones can be on an Alltel plan but we don't put Alltel phones on VZW plans.

Herritage? You mean Divested? or Non-divested?

If a customer walks into a VZW store, and, the rep in the store helps them, they are Non-Divested. I am not privy to that info...but if someone walks into a Divested store and trys to activate a VZW phone, if the rep does it, they are violating company policy.

For me it comes down to Alltel or VZW.
Non-divested/Retained = VZW
Divested = Alltel

Alltel Policy does not allow non-alltel phones on our network.

I should have been more clear...a Heritage Alltel Plan means a customer from a Non-Divested Alltel Market that has already had the billing system conversion done so technically they are a VZW customer now with a VZW account number but still have their existing Alltel plan. You are correct a Divested Alltel customer would not be able to do this because their account will not be converted to the VZW billing system

The key is if it a converted account. If it is not, then it should not be done. If it is, then no problem because the billing system has codes for vzw blackberry's on an Alltel rate plan - trust me I do it everyday.
