Found out the other day that my local branch of Alltel has been purchased by AT&T and will be switching over fully over the next two years. Has anyone else heard about this from their local branches?

Welcome out of your coma. We found this out back in June when Verizon announced who the divested areas were being sold off to, though it could still be a few months before FCC approval and AT&T does anything. I dont know about other areas, but here in NV a couple of months back Alcatel (one of the companies AT&T buys 3g equipment from) did some checking of existing Alltel facilities in town. Hoepfully, it means 3g layover in the divested areas.

in arizona alltel is Verizon

alltel is Verizon thats why they offer that family five's option on plans higher than 49.99 , they carried it over from alltel.

For Jude and DaPope: Alltel is (or is becoming) Verizon in most areas. In the areas that it's not (called Divested Markets) most of those are going to AT&T. This is old news.

I was talking to one of the Alltel reps here in town and she seemed to think that AT&T would be making the converted towers into 3G right from the start. I know that reps don't always know everything, but it's hopeful!
