Default Alltel Tec Support won't help me with my TOUR

Bought the phone yesterday.
Can't update the PRL and called in , they wouldn't help saying I should not have that phone and it will completely die by Oct 17th.

I should add this TOUR is the Alltel Branded model released on the 20th.

Uhh.. that's not good. The rep I talked to said that I would have no problem activating mine when I get it on Monday.

I can't help til then, though.

So you're saying you bought a divested alltel phone, and you're supposed to be in a non-divested service area?

Yikes. That sounds like you might be screwed. I really don't know for sure so hopefully someone will be able to help you here. If not, post the same problem over at howardforums. Out of the two places, you should get some help.

Ahh no. My area's divested. I would call them back, try to get it activated again, and if they don't, ask why they sold it to you if you weren't going to be able to activate it. If you can't use it, you should be able to return it.

Its working but needs the PRL updated and that is why they will not help with.
I tried my best to talk to them , I was told several times it shouldn't have been sold to me take it back to the Alltel store I got it from.

If you're in a retained (non-divested) market, you should not have the Tour, and will not get any help from retained customer service or tech support, in fact, you would be lucky if they didn't remove the esn from the account.

If you ARE in a divested market, then you need to speak with divested tech support, and they should be able to help you with whatever you need

From the sounds of it, that's the best advice. Sucks you'll have to lose the Tour until you can get one on Verizon, but at least you get back that $519 you paid for it, and get it for cheaper or a newer BB later this year on Verizon

To me it sounds like they're trying to keep people from getting Alltel equipment (and the resulting Alltel contract extension) right before they move to Verizon.

It's honestly pretty unclear in the Verizon-Alltel FAQ, and nothing is explicitly said about getting a new Alltel phone during the transition.

I don't think the stores are the authority. The website and CS know what you can and cannot do.

It looks like the Tour is one of, if not the only, phone that is affected such that if you're going to Verizon, you can't buy it. If you go to the website and enter a ZIP that's going to Verizon, you can't find the Tour. However, if you enter a ZIP that's staying Alltel, it's there.

Sad to say, but I don't think you'll be able to keep the Alltel Tour.

The Tour is only available for Divested markets.
You can upgrade to a new phone with a new Alltel contract, no problem, but you just can't get a Tour...

That's incorrect, you can have an alltel phone or verizon phone on an alltel contract without have to swap to a verizon contract. This has been discussed many times lately.
