| | Alltel shut my phone off this morning
Anyways, Its back on but I was just wondering if this is normal. First time it happened to me but I thought they would atlest give you a month. Anyways, I forgot to pay my bill and it was about 25 days past due and they shut me off. I quickly paid it over the phone and it was on in less than a few seconds, but I was just wondering if they only let you go 25 days and its done? Just out of curosity, and possibly it was because they size of my bill 408 dollars. Its taken care of its just one of those things

You got 25 days?!?! When I had AT&T (it was Cingular at the time) they turned my service off the next day. It was totally my fault cause I forgot to pay my bill, but I never made that mistake again.....lol

US Cellular shut me off the day after bill was due! Then wanted to charge me a $35 dollar fee per line to turn them back on - WTF! 2 busness lines, never paid later than 5 days after due date. They weren't going to budge on it either. Paid bill and ETF and switched to verizon.

Told them to cancel me - they threatened the ETF. I told 'em to sue me for it... and I'd bring to court my bank records showing they'd cashed my checks...and I'd filed a complaint to my state AG"s office for consumer fraud. Account closed, no ETF... signed up with Midwest Wireless...which got acquired by Alltel, which got acquired by VZW.. .

| | OR, pay your bill when it's due. Jeesh. Financial responsibilities are just that, a responsibility. Is it really that hard to be responsible for yourself? Oye vay.

From what I've seen, anyways.. And I see a lot of it. Tough times for a lot of folks. Are many people just plain ol' irresponsible? Sure. But for a lot of people it's tough times.

I get 'tough' times, sure. Have to minimize when needed and a cellular phone is an unneeded luxury to most (outside of business), as it is for me. BUT, as the OP stated, he/she had "forgot".... really?? Come one now....

BUT, as the OP stated, he/she had "forgot".... really?? Come one now.... | Cell phones are no longer considered a luxury as it was back in the 90's and early part of this decade. I certainly think its cheaper to have a cell than it is a wired phone line, especially when considering all the features I get.(For me anyways) Heck in some parts of the world (Africa) cell phones are the only option. Its much cheaper to build a wireless infrastructure than it is to build a wired one, so as 3rd world countries continue to develop you will see cell phone networks being the only option for most people.
With that said, dude should certainly pay his bill on time.

wow its funny how people know what people do and don't do... I have a multi-line account and the Text messages goto my brothers phone(mainline, got them switched when we got the phones), he mentioned it to me while I was busy one day and I thought to myself I will pay that later this evening... then it slipped my mind (of course none of any internet forums members have done such things). The money was in my account to make the payment I just forgot to call in to do so. It wasn't like I was trying to not pay cause I was going to have to pay one way or another. HorizonStar, I am glad that you have never missed something(due date, deadline, event) in your life from being forgetful at times. I am normally really good at remembering things that have to be done, but I have slipped up at times in my life.

Still not buying it.

What's the big deal? People forget.
Heck, I myself got shut off once for being past due. When I was paying bills, I deducted it out of my checkbook but apparently forgot to go online and make the payment. When I got the collection call I thought it was an error cause there was my payment in the checkbook. (Between checking statements and hadn't balanced yet to realize money was still in account.) I felt soooo stupid when I got shut off, balanced checkbook and realized what must have happened! But there you go, accidents happen. I didn't argue about the fees because it was my error. Why is it so hard for you to believe that people FORGET?
