Default Alltel Roaming Partners

The last couple of weeks I have had trouble when I am roaming. I'm in an area that will be ATN. Is it because Alltel or Verizon has quit its partnership with other Cdma company's, or is it Alltel. Our contract is up shortly and wondering if I will have the great rooaming I used to have.

Just wondering what your prl is? I'm in a market going to ATT, and roaming for me has gone from consistently good to regularly mediocre. I don't know the technical reasons of why roaming has become so spotty in some areas.

However, someone in this forum posted something about d/m Alltel phones no longer roaming on Sprint towers. That would explain why I have more dropped calls and spotty broadband, esp. in urban areas, than I ever used to.

What other cellphone companies are in your area?

My prl is 41000. The other CDMA carriers that I know of are Verizon and Cellular One. Maybe sprint. I wish I knew who's tower i'm on at the house so as to which way to lean when my contract is out.

I've the same prl & it's the one for divested markets. I can't think of what forum I saw it in, but there's some sort of software or some way of identifying whose tower you're on.

I was told that nothing will be done until the 3 or 4 quarter of next year. This includes making the switch of tower ownership and serves. If you can find out which tower you are receiving your signal from may help a lot. I'm from SI as well and have not had any problem with my signal. It is very strong, just as it has always been. Like you I'm not looking forward to ATN. I know people with ATT and Sprint here and their signal is really bad. One person with Sprint, if they even get a signal, are roaming. It looks like I will have to go with Verizon when the conversion to ATN is made.

Thanks for the heads up about next year. Verizon is the only other choice in our area. I have a co-worker with a I-phone and he only has voice in our area and he has to be outside. That one year contract is pretty tempting though.

You can get ATT or Sprint here, but as you pointed out their service is total crap. I will probable go with Verizon in the end, but will give ATN a little while to see how the service is.
