Alltel Online Account

This may have been asked before, but if it has I apologize. I was wondering if anyone knew why there would be maintenance on the Alltel Online Account System at the end of May when they are going through the merger with Verizon and will be moving Alltel customers to the Verizon system?

Even though they are merging with Verizon, this is done overtime for different areas, everyone doesn't just switch at once. So they have to keep the existing system up and running and make changes as needed when people transition off of the account system. Also AT&T will be buying some of the Alltel/Verizon customers so they need to make changes to accommodate that.

Perhaps I should have asked differently since I do know that there is a transition and that not everyone will be Verizon all at the same time. Can someone, maybe an employee tell me what I may see different on the Alltel Online system after this maintenance at the end of May?

Well I am not an employee nor do I pretend to be one. I do work in I.T. though, and my guess would be nothing would appear different to us as end users. They are probably doing some backend work that will take down the system for us as users. But who knows just have to wait until the end of May to see if anything has changed.

i read an email today that said verizon is "passing" of its non aquired alltel stores to at&t. however, Ohio market areas that remain alltel, as well as in Illinois will NOT be part of this at&t merger. So in Ohio and Illinois it will STILL remain alltel.

That's good to know. I know AT&T is buying the southwestern/Central Minnesota market. AT&T also doesn't have very good coverage here. So that will be good for that carrier.

I wonder who will buy the Ohio/Illinois Alltel market. They can remain alltel, but they still have to be purchased by someone if it is a verizon divested area.
