3G is somewhat undesirable

For a while I've been getting more and more irritated in Alltel's 3G service. It seems like, for the most part, the internet runs slow, no matter what browser I use, be it Bolt or the stock BB browser. I was in the Verizon store and noticed their 3G was significantly faster. I am in a non-divested area so, of course, I'm still Alltel. Though the phone functions fairly flawlessly for everything else, I get a tad irritated at points when it stays at 20% load for various websites. Other times it loads very fast.

I am using the Tour with Alltel's 5.0 OS; no hybrid or anything. I've even changed PRLs around a few times and none really help anything. Any advice with this? Thanks.

I wish I had advice for ya. Got the same problem/frustration. The other day I was sitting with some friends who have vzw tours. Mine's running a .419-based hybrid (driphter Dv6.3) that has the fastest internet speeds I've seen in any hybrid, and it barely kept up with the speeds of their stock 4.7 os tours! And I made sure we were all using the same browser encoding. WTH?

Awhile back I tinkered with manually loading a prl using software called qpst v2.x. The problem was it wouldn't see my bb. It wasn't worth my time to figure why not and so stayed with alltel prl's.

The market I'm in is going to ATT at some point. They have no local presence here, so it will be interesting to see what they do with us cdma folk. My contract's up in Sept. So it will be good to go month to month, biding my time.

Yeah I use my friend's Droid and his 3G is super-fast. Same with my other friend's iPhone. Mine just lacks in the 3G department and it drives me nuts to have a multimedia functional phone and not be able to surf the web quickly. I think it may be time I move to another provider because I simply can't have this when sometimes the phone is the only venue I have for internet browsing when I'm on the road for work and such.
