Thumbs up Sena - Blackberry Curve Magnetflipper Case

Product found here: SENA CASES :: BLACKBERRY 8300-8310-8320-8330 CURVE MAGNETFLIPPER CASES

Price: 49.99

I own two of these great cases, one in the regular leather, one in the croco imprinted leather. The croco seems stiffer than the other but then again I have only used the croco for a week now, I suspect it will loosen up with use.

For those who like variety there are 8 color choices and a croco option for black and red. The case comes well packaged in a nice box and pouch - as it should for a 49.99 item. There is a removable plastic clip which is a little big for my taste and I don't use it, but it's there for those who need it. It attaches to the back with a tiny screw attachment. A tiny allen wrench is provided.

I found the quality of the product to be excellent. The leather is good quality and the stitching is straight and hasn't come loose. I am loving the croco red leather. The flip part that covers the face of the blackberry is very lightly padded. The Sena name is embossed at the top which I could personally do without. There are 2 slots for micro sd cards and another small opening which is not useful to me. All the openings line up correctly so there is no issue connecting a charger, usb cord, using the camera or side keys.

With each case I found initially that it was hard to get everything to line up perfectly. After a few days though, it seems to resolve itself and after a few more days it's a perfect fit. The case opens downward instead of up which I prefer. Flaps that open upwards leave an annoying flap you need to hold up with your finger when talking. This doesn't have that issue. The flap has magnets built in but invisible. This is how the flap is secured. It also puts your blackberry in sleep mode when closed. There is no screen protector but I found it doesn't need one in this case.

I have only had one major drop on a hard cement floor and the case did what it's meant to do - protect your blackberry.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a fashionable and functional case for your blackberry this is a perfect choice!

I have had a number of Sena cases, the most recent being the MagnetFlipper case for my Pearl 8100. As you point out, these cases are excellent quality leather and construction but I found one issue when carrying the BB in this case using a belt clip.

If i brushed the case against something while walking, it would often pop open and, because the flip opens downward, it would stay hanging wide open until I noticed it and closed it manually. What appears to happen is that the flip is retained by magnets at an interface of two flat surfaces which are very hard to pull apart but can slide easily if pushed sideways. When something you brush against slides the flip slightly, the magnets become misaligned and then pop apart.

This is a non-issue if you don't carry your device on a belt or if you always have it covered by a suit jacket, but I found it to be annoying.

If any Sena folks read this forum, I think there are two possible fixes for this:
1. Hang the case from the belt clip upside down. The BB face is covered by the flip so it will look normal. The clip on my Pearl case required the device to be rotated 90 degrees for removal so having the case upside down won't matter since the case is always turned 90 degrees for removal. With the case upside down, if the flip is popped open, gravity will keep it closed.
2. Instead of a perfectly flat surface where the magnets are, use some shallow indents so it will be much harder to slide the surfaces and misalign the magnets. With those strong magnets aligned, it is unlikely that the case will pop open.

Just to be clear, in general, Sena makes great cases. They look great and will probably last until your device is in a glass showcase at the Smithsonian.
