Default REVIEW: Rubberized case from Handhelditems.com

Got 2 of the rubberized cases in the mail today..

BlackBerry Storm 9500 / 9530 Rubberized Shield Case Black

Build quality:

Simply put, it's awful. The plastic material feels very cheep, more like a compressed styrofoam. The two pieces fit together well in some areas, but other areas they do not sit flush nor align flush at some connections. The case snaps together well, and holds together well however. I am sure if it is dropped, the case will not separate.

Appearance:

As my gf remarked, it looks like the BAT MOBILE. lol The back piece is nicely formed and curves well, however the front snap piece is not well curved. The front truly does remind me of the bat mobile from the movie.

Colorwise, it looks like it was spray painted on, it's not shiny, reflective at all. Just very dull and looks like a faded black.

BUT WILL IT PROTECT THE PHONE/WHAT ABOUT SCRATCHING IT ITSELF?

For those with the VZW plastic clear cases, personally, I felt that placing the phone in the case would scratch the phone itself because it fits snugly. Also, if I were to drop the phone, the case seems as though it would shatter and damage the phone as well.

Because this case feels more like a compressed styrofoam, I feel that it will not crack. Also, although the phone does fit snugly in the case, it's not so tight that you risk scratching the phone.

In terms of protection, it has very good coverage of the phone itself, with the exception of between the volume toggle and the headphone jack, there's no overlap there, it's just one large hole surrounding those set of buttons and the jack.

Overall, you get what you pay for... $6 or so.

VERDICT: WAIT FOR THE SEIDIO CASES

I just received my black rubber case and I'm pretty happy with it considering what I paid for it. It's exactly what I expected to get.

well it's not that it's worse than what i expected, but i'd say save the money and put it works a slightly decent case in the mean time.

can't really beat the price though

that's the same position i'm in. it's decent enough for a month or so, but as a long term case, then it's a pass IMO

I have been wanting to get a black rubberized case for my storm on order. Do these thing really help protect it in a fall? Also what is a good brand? I see someone mentioned Seidio, is that a good brand? I am a blackberry noobie.

yes, seidio is the way to go, but they don't have cases out yet.

this case will protect your phone, but my personal feeling is that it won't last long after a fall.

i'd say get a silicon until seidio comes out. VZW has 2 types, one which has more coverage than the other (it goes over the word blackberry next to the earpiece, the other does not and the one with better coverage is MUCH thicker). only prob with silicon is that they wear and can rub off on the phone and collect dust after a little bit of time. I constantly take off the silicon and wipe the phone off.

I bought the OEM one. It's pretty simple, has all the right cutouts, is a perfect fit, and is cheap (~$6).

Amzer Rubberized Snap On Case for BlackBerry Storm 9530 - Midnight Black For Blackberry - BlackBerry Storm 9530 - Cases - Fommy.com

thats the case i bought, and i'm happy with it. it does not feel like styrofoam to me. yes with most cases that snap together that i've seen they probably will come apart if you drop your phone, but the case will take the force before it splits apart. but for less then 10 dollars...what do you expect? and it does not look that bad to me at all, i like it.

well you shouldnt buy a product that has the model product on a nonexistant phone...

There are no metal sensors in the middle of the phone and you dont open up the battery compartment like that
