My Seidio Case and Clip review (9700 Bold)
Hi guys, long time lurker first time poster. I figured I'd give you guys my personal opinion on my new case/clip combo.
A little bit of background. I'm a paramedic in the Bronx. My phone is my life-line. I use my personal phone to call for medication orders under certain circumstances. I NEED my phone, and in some cases it is a life or death situation. With that being said, Ive had my Curve for a couple of years, and it was by far the best thing that I could have had. But times change, and in comes my new bold. Now, my curve has taken a BEATING on the job, and seeing as how I purchased the bold without contract ($488 out the door...i know, i know, save me the lecture) I need it well protected and in good working order at all times. So, I decided to protect it with Seidio, I purchased their Innocase 360 Combo which includes a cover for the phone (which has a built in plastic screen protector and rubber keyboard guard) After four days of heavy use here is my opinion:
The case itself feels and looks great, and isn't bulky by any means, yet my phone feels well protected, with the only part really exposed being the track pad, here-in lies the problem, the bottom of the screen protector is a little too close to the top of the track pad, and when you're scrolling up, your thumb tends to hit the bottom of the screen protector, it doesn't hinder performance, but it is a nuisance. The other problem with the case is the rubber keyboard guard, the bold as we know has the angled keys so your fingers can slide across the keyboard where as the curve (83xx) had them more protruded. The rubber makes it much harder to feel the "money-spot" on the keys and it has deffinatly slowed down my typing a little bit, having to deleted and re-press keys several times, because my finger will hit K when trying to type L. I will admit however that after four days, it is a little easier to type, I'm not sure if thats me getting used to it, or the rubber wearing-in a little bit. However, this is something I'm more than willing to deal with because if for whatever reason i don't notice blood on my glove and go to place a call for medical orders, its nice to just be able to wipe down the rubber with an alcohol pad and not worry about anything seeping inside the cracks between the keys. I will admit I'm a little worried about the lettering wearing off of the keys after excessive use of alcohol wipes on the case, but we will see, no signs of wear after four days, but I wipe it down every time i touch it with gloves that have made contact with a patient, so only time will tell how long it will last.
The clip is awesome. The phone is held tightly and feels very secure. The best part is that on the back of the clip there is a tab that gives you the option to lock the phone into the clip, blocking the spring on the tab from releasing the phone, this comes in very handy for me, as there have been plenty of times with my curve where I have hopped out of a car or ambulance only to have my elbow or seatbelt nick the top of the tab and send my beloved blackberry flying across the pavement. My only concern is that the tab feels kind of cheap and flimsy but no malfunction thus far.
Over all I am happy with my purchase. My phone feels secure. If you're looking for excellent protection without completely giving up the look and feel of your phone (a-la otterbox) This may be something to look into. Happy Thanksgiving!
