I would agree with requiring a handsfree kit while driving, but I think it's a bit late to try to make it ILLEGAL to use a cell while while driving.

Default no way

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. They do that hear in Chicago, and I don't think anybody follows it. It's just another way to generate money for the city.

I use an earpiece to talk on the phone while driving but I will only text or look at my Blackberry when I'm not in motion.

Regarding government laws, I do think they should implement a law against apparent distractions while driving like texting (and even women who put on makeup while driving :S); but I think talking should be allowed, especially with an earpiece.

Yes. Talking on the phone puts you into tunnel vision. There are enough bad drivers out there that we don't need stupid ones on their devices. If you're busy enough to need to talk on the phone, email and text while you're driving, you should be paid enough to get a chauffeur, otherwise you're working too hard for too little.

Yes. When I used to call whilst in the car there were times when I'd finish a call and couldn't remember driving past certain buildings or streets. Used to scare me that if I wasn't concentrating on that would I be able to react if a child walked out in front of me. Is any call worth risking a life?

Sadly, I think they should. There are enough distractions without adding email/texting/etc. to the mix. And I do admit that I am an offender in this area. But I have seen people take it way further than me, and it's kind of scary to share the roads with them. (I also think reading the newspaper, books, etc. should be included - not just techie items.)

i don't believe using a cell phone should be bannned but a responsible driver should be using a hands free device so they have both hands on the wheel

I will talk while driving (on a BT Headset of course.) Otherwise my Crackberry just sits back and enjoys the ride.

I think you should be allowed to talk on your phone while driving, but texting and emailing is ridiculous. Save that for the red lights/traffic.
